First Team

v's Clwb Cymric Ail Dim

Result: 4-1 (W)
Goals: Jay Gilbertson(2), Lathem Miller (2)
Assists: Chezney, Zach Stephens, Jay Gilbertson, Lathem Miller

Match Summary -

After a difficult game last weekend, it was important for our Allstars to get back on track and regain momentum. From the first whistle, they made their intentions clear.

Jay Gilbertson opened the scoring just eight minutes into the first half, and barely 60 seconds later, Lathem Miller doubled our advantage. A dream start for the Allstars, who were determined to take control of the fixture and come away with a positive result.

Clwb Cymric managed to pull one back just before the half-time whistle, sending the boys into the break with a 2–1 lead.

The second half proved to be a tougher test. The home side found momentum and put our defence and goalkeeper Cam St John under sustained pressure. However, the Allstars stood firm, showing determination, resilience and real defensive grit when it mattered most.

A special mention goes to Cam St John, who produced a fantastic penalty save in the second half, keeping Clwb Cymric at bay and giving the boys a crucial boost when the pressure was on. A huge moment in the game that helped keep the Allstars in control of their destiny.

Having weathered the pressure, the boys made their opportunities count in the closing stages. Both Lathem Miller and Jay Gilbertson struck from breakaways in the final minutes to put the result beyond doubt and secure an impressive 4–1 away victory!

A much-needed response after last weekend, with the boys showing character at both ends of the pitch. They took their chances, stood strong under pressure and finished the game in style.

A fantastic three points for the Allstars!

Reserves

v's Grangetown Catholic OB Reserves

Result: 1-1 (Penalty win 5-3)
Goals: Carl Boardman(2), Jay Machachini, Charlie Clements, Jamie Way, Daniel Ayre
Assists: Sion Laugharne

Match Summary -
Our Reserves kicked off their Cardiff & District AFL City Supporters Cup campaign this week, facing a tough Grangetown Catholic Old Boys Reserves side in what proved to be a tense and closely contested cup tie.

The first half saw both sides battle hard, with chances at either end but neither team able to find the breakthrough. The game remained finely balanced as the teams went into the break goalless.

Just minutes into the second half, Carl Boardman broke the deadlock to put the Allstars ahead and give the boys the start they were looking for. However, the lead was short-lived, with the visitors responding just two minutes later to bring the game level at 1–1.

From there, it was a real battle, with both sides pushing to find a winner but neither able to gain the decisive edge. As the final whistle sounded, the scores remained level, meaning the tie would have to be settled from the penalty spot.

With the pressure firmly on, our Allstars stepped up when it mattered most. Every penalty was confidently converted, with the boys showing composure and determination to score all five of their spot kicks and secure a 5–3 penalty shootout victory!

Cup football is all about finding a way through, and our Reserves did exactly that. In a game where there was little to separate the two sides, their nerve from the spot made all the difference.

A hard-fought cup win, five penalties scored and a place in the next round secured. Well done, lads!

Under 16's

v's Tiger Bay FC

Result: 5-2 (W)
Goals: Oliver Elliott (3), Martin Kayongo, Ryan Baker
Assists: Jenson Lewis, Joseph Minte, Dawood Ahsin, Ryan Baker
Player of the Match: Martin Kayongo

Match Summary - A cup comeback, a hat-trick and a performance built on character.

This weekend marked the start of the Under 16s’ final cup campaign of their time in junior football. Facing a tough Tiger Bay side, the boys knew they were in for a challenging morning, both physically and mentally.

Oliver Elliott stepped into the captain’s role for the first half, bringing a level head and helping to steady the ship in what was a tense, back-and-forth opening period.

Tiger Bay struck first, but our very own Oliver Elliott responded quickly to bring us level. Tiger Bay found the net again before the break, sending the boys into half-time trailing 1–2.

Coach Matt delivered a stern half-time team talk, but the boys knew themselves that the first-half performance hadn’t reflected the talent within the squad. They came out for the second half with one mission: to play their football, trust their ability and show everyone what they could do.

And that’s exactly what they did.

Martin Kayongo found the net just five minutes into the second half to bring Allstars level, before Oliver Elliott struck twice more to complete a superb cup hat-trick. Ryan Baker then calmly converted a penalty to seal an impressive 5–2 victory and book our place in the next stage of the campaign.

We’ve always known the talent this team possesses, and our off-season signings have added real strength in depth. But today’s second-half display showcased something even more important than talent: the growth and maturity of this team.

These are no longer the young boys they once were, allowing hot heads to dictate the game. Instead, they rose above the difficult challenges, refused to be drawn into the chaos and stayed focused on what mattered most — playing their football and supporting one another.

That is what makes us most proud.

A cup win is always special, and we can’t wait to see how this campaign unfolds for the boys. But performances like this show just how far they have come, both as footballers and as a team.

Player of the Match: Martin Kayongo
There were plenty of worthy contenders today, but the award goes to Martin, who not only scored his first goal for Cardiff Allstars FC but also gave everything for the badge from the first minute to the last. He played with a smile on his face, gave 100% effort throughout and continued to support his teammates until the final whistle. A first goal in Allstars colours, a fantastic team performance and a well-deserved Player of the Match award.

Congratulations, boys. What a way to start your final junior cup campaign!

Match Summary -
What a performance from our Under 12s today! From front to back, every player put in a fantastic shift, showing quality, confidence and teamwork throughout. The boys were on top from the very start, and as the game progressed, the win felt almost inevitable.

The goals came thick and fast, with Harrison Oakley opening the scoring in the 7th minute, followed by Jermaine Maunder just four minutes later. Elliott Cheshire added another in the 27th minute before Jermaine grabbed his second and Wonderful Okunrotifa found the net in the 32nd minute. Nico Darmanin then got in on the action, scoring in the 45th minute before completing his brace in the 68th minute to round off a fantastic attacking display.

Seven goals, six different goalscoring contributions across the squad and a performance full of confidence and attacking intent. A brilliant team effort that showcased the talent and hard work within this group.

Player of the Match: Harrison Oakley

Harrison was outstanding at the back today. Strong in the challenge, winning his headers and helping drive the team forward, he delivered a superb all-round performance. To top it all off, he got himself on the scoresheet too!

A thoroughly deserved Player of the Match award for a player who showed exactly what it means to contribute at both ends of the pitch.

From the defensive work to the attacking flair, this was a performance the whole squad can be proud of.

Well done, boys! Keep building, keep believing and keep showing everyone what Cardiff Allstars FC U12s are capable of!

Under 9's

v's Canton FC Yellow (L)
        Clwb Cymric Coch (W)
        Llantwit Major Town Yellows (W)

Match Summary -
A challenging morning for our Under 9 Girls, who continue to battle through a shortage of players, leaving them with just four girls available for each game.

A huge thank you to Canton FC Yellow, Clwb Cymric Coch and Llantwit Major Town Yellows for their understanding and willingness to adapt, playing 4v4 to give our girls a fair opportunity to compete. That support is hugely appreciated.

Even with the smaller numbers, our girls had absolutely no time to rest, putting in a shift across all three fixtures with no substitutes and no opportunity to catch their breath. Tired legs and exhausted faces were certainly on show by the end of the morning, but their determination never faded.

And the results? Two wins and just one defeat!

An absolutely fantastic achievement under difficult circumstances. The girls showed incredible resilience, teamwork and togetherness, proving that even when the odds are stacked against them, their determination and bond as a team can take them a long way.

We couldn't be prouder of every single one of you. You gave everything out there today, and you deserve every bit of praise coming your way.

Special mention to Jess, who had a phenomenal morning in front of goal, scoring eight of our nine goals across the three games! An outstanding individual achievement and a fantastic contribution to the team's success.

Well done, girls. You showed tremendous heart, and we are so proud to be cheering you on every step of the way.

Four players. Three games. Two wins. One incredible team.
